So, is AI in finance doomed? Not at all. The real story, and the real opportunity, lies in the middle ground. The same survey found that 34% of people are open to a hybrid model: a human adviser supercharged with AI tools. This is where things get interesting.

Despite the legitimate fears, we can’t ignore the benefits that even wary consumers acknowledge. The top-cited advantage of AI in the survey was cost reduction (24%). Human advice is expensive, and AI can absolutely make financial guidance more accessible.
Other key benefits included faster support (21%) and 24/7 availability (18%). These are not game-changers for complex, life-altering decisions, but they are incredibly useful for day-to-day financial management. Indeed, 23% of people said they’d be happy to use AI to help them find the right human adviser in the first place, using it as a sophisticated matchmaking service.
This suggests the most immediate role for AI is not as the adviser itself, but as an incredibly efficient assistant for specific, well-defined tasks.
